The beginnings of museum activity in Blagoevgrad date back to the late 1940s, when a small collection was created at the local cultural center and gradually expanded. In 1952, the Historical Museum was officially established. The current museum building, designed specifically for museum purposes, was constructed in the late 1970s and has housed the Regional Historical Museum of Blagoevgrad since 1980.
Do you know that Blagoevgrad is home to Bulgaria’s only Water Museum? Located just outside the city center, near the Metro store, the museum offers an educational experience dedicated to the natural water cycle.
Address: If you are driving from the city center toward the Metro store, you will see a sign for the “Water Museum” shortly before the turnoff to Metro. Follow the sign and it will lead you directly to the museum.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00–17:00; closed on weekends.
Admission: Free of charge.

Located near one of the entrances to Blagoevgrad (opposite the Metro store), you will find Bulgaria’s only Water Museum. The idea for the museum came from the director of the local water supply company, and it is housed in several separate rooms — the first room is especially suitable for young children.
Here, visitors can see a model of the natural water cycle, and curious children have the opportunity to assemble a special puzzle featuring water channels and get inspired by artworks about water created by other children. Interesting is the visualization of the local water sources in the Blagoevgrad region and the overall water cycle.
The museum is mainly visited by groups, but individual visitors are also warmly welcomed. A staff member provides an engaging guided tour (in Bulgarian) and explains the exhibits in detail.
